Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors: The 50ZL220MEFC10X16 is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor, which is designed to be used in electrical circuits as part of the system to act as a filter to smooth out signal transients or filter out unwanted noise. The capacitor is constructed with polarized electrolytic capacitors made with aluminum foil as the anode, a thin, porous separation layer and an electrolyte. The electrolyte holds the anode-seperator- and cathode layers together after being formed into a cylindrical can and terminations on each end. The 50ZL220MEFC10X16 self-healing barrier has a high current handling capability up to 10 A. The main applications of aluminum electrolytic capacitors are in AC power filtering, DC power filtering, and other power conversion and conditioning circuits. They are used extensively in the power converters and power supplies, electric power tools and electronic equipment that requires high power rectification. This type of capacitor is also used frequently in AC/DC converters or AC/DC adaptors. Additionally, they are used to filter currents and signals in high-frequency and high-speed circuits.Working Principle: The 50ZL220MEFC10X16 aluminum electrolytic capacitor uses two layers of aluminum foil; the anode and cathode. The two layers are separated by a thin, porous layer of insulating material, known as the dielectric, that prevents direct electrical contact between the anode and cathode, allowing a polarized electrical field to form between them. The oxide layer on the surface of the anode foils serves as a barrier between the electrolyte and the capacitor\'s dielectric insulating material, thus also helping to prevent electrical contact between the anode and cathode. When a voltage source is connected to the capacitor, electrons flow from the anode to the cathode and create a negative charge on the cathode. This voltage is applied against the resistance in the dielectric and causes electrolysis in the electrolyte, which induces an electrical current between the electrode layers. This current creates a 2-way capacitive effect through an electric field, where charge is stored in the electric field and released when the voltage of the capacitor is changed. The aluminum electrolytic capacitor offers high-capacitance values and holds a charge much longer than other types of capacitors, such as ceramic capacitors. In addition, they have low leakage current and are usually very compact in size.
