LED Indication - Discrete

Light Emitting Diode (LED) Indication is a type of standard visual indication that is extensively used for a variety of industrial applications including as indicators for lighting, warning, and/or emergency signals such as in electric vehicles, aviation, and military devices.

The general application field of LED indication is quite extensive, but in terms of discrete indication the demand has increased due to the growing need to provide specialized and targeted indication devices which can be tailored to the user’s individual requirements.

Discrete LED indication is commonly used in the context of process measurement systems and real-time control system operation, where the goal is to provide very accurate, reliable and cost-effective feedback for the user. In addition to providing accurate information, discrete LED indication can also often provide visual feedback on the status of a system, such as when an alarm or warning is triggered or when an error or failure has been detected.

There are several types of discrete LED indication available, each of which is designed to meet a specific application and has its own particular advantages and disadvantages.Some of the most popular and commonly used types of discrete LED indication include direct current (DC) indicator, alternating current (AC) indicator, resistance indicator, temperature indicator, pulse position indicator, and speed indicator.

Each type of LED Indication has its own distinct working principle, depending on the type of indication being used. For DC indication, illumination is created when a direct current flows through the LED, whereas for AC indication the forward voltage and current source alternates on/off in order to create operation/illumination.For resistance indication, a low resistance current is sent through the LED in order to produce illumination. Temperature indication uses thermal sensing to regulate the LED current and adjust the LED brightness level accordingly, along with pulse position indicator mode which uses a series of pulses to create a more dynamic output.

The speed indicator is used to detect rotational speed in various types of machinery such as motors, turbines, pumps and compressors. Speed indication works by using a series of LEDs that are arranged in a circle, and when different speeds are detected the LEDs will light up in succession to create a racing or rippling effect.

Discrete LED indication is an effective and reliable way to provide visual information to the user, and has become commonplace in numerous applications due to its low cost, low voltage requirements, and excellent reliability. In addition, discrete LED indication is well-suited for applications offering multiple levels of feedback, and can also provide visual alarms or warnings when an error has occurred.
