725-7/8 is a type of electromagnetic relay used in the broadcast industry. It is basically an electromagnetic electrical switch used to switch high-current DC or AC signals. The most common application fields are radio & TV broadcasting, FM & AM broadcast system regulation, professional audio system installation, and commercial and domestic application.
The 725-7/8 relay is a two-stage, single-pole switch consisting of two electromagnets and a relay switch. The primary coil of each electromagnet is electronically pulsed by the user, while the secondary winding is interconnected to the switch. When the primary coil is pulsed, a magnetic field is formed which contacts the switch relay coil and latches the switching circuit in the “on” position.
The relay\'s current rating is 2A, which means that the relay is capable of switching currents up to 2A. It is also possible to modify the switch by adding an external transformer to increase the relay\'s current rating. The contact gap distance of the relay is typically 1.3 millimeters, and the contact material is usually a silver-cadmium alloy.
The 725-7/8 is used in a number of different applications, including circuit switching, voltage regulation, signal measurement, audio synchronization, and surge protection. In general, the relay is designed to be user programmable and can be used in a variety of applications. In radio and television broadcasting, the 725-7/8 is used to switch the output of an FM or AM broadcast system to one of two or more antennas, thus providing the user with a choice of stations.
The 725-7/8 is a versatile, high-performance device; however, it has a few drawbacks, all of which are inherent to electromagnetic relays. First, it generates a high degree of electromagnetic interference that can interfere with other devices within a broadcast system. Additionally, it is heavily susceptible to mechanical vibrations, which can cause the relay to fail prematurely. Finally, the relay is slow to respond and has a low frequency response, which means that it is not suitable for applications which require a high degree of responsiveness.
Despite its shortcomings, the 725-7/8 still provides a reliable and efficient means to switch electronic signals, allowing users to take advantage of different radio and television broadcast systems. By combining its versatility with its robust design and reliable performance, this device is ideal for a variety of professional and domestic applications.
