Application Field and Working Principle of ADF4360-3BCPZThe ADF4360-3BCPZ is a low power voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and divide-by-N-counter. This device is classified as a clock/timing product and includes clock generators, PLLs, frequency synthesizers. It is used in a variety of applications, such as communications, consumer electronics, computing, consumer medical applications, industrial automation, etc.The ADF4360-3BCPZ operates over a wide supply voltage range of 2.3 V to 4.5 V and a wide frequency range of 1794 MHz to 2250 MHz. The total harmonic distortion is greater than -48 dBc (typical) at 1800 MHz. The low power consumption of the device, less than 13-mW operation at 4.5 V and 9-mW operation at 2.3 V, make it well suited for use in battery operated systems.The device consists of a VCO with an N-bit divider, a reference divider and an output divider. The dividing ratio of the device is defined by the digital N divider and by the reference divider. The N divider consists of a 10-bit digital counter, where the its output is used to select the oscillator’s frequency. The output frequency can be programmed by setting the bits of the counter accurately. The 10-bit counter can be programmed in either synchronous or asynchronous modes. The output frequency is derived from the oscillator’s output divided by a number from 1 to 1023.The ADF4360-3BCPZ is designed to be used for multiple applications, where precise frequency control is required. The device is fully programmable so that different applications can be served with a single IC. It offers various frequency settings and outputs, which can be preset and controlled from a central point in a system. The device also provides low current consumption, wide supply voltage range and low harmonic distortion.
