Analog to Digital Converters or ADC are used to convert analog data to digital data and vice-versa. The ADS7279IRSAR is an 8-bit successive approximation register (SAR) ADC which provides user selectable resolutions from 8-bits down to 6-bits. It is especially beneficial in applications that utilize narrow bandwidths. The ADS7279IRSAR provides fast data acquisition times, high performance, and low power consumption for battery-operated applications such as portable medical devices.

The ADS7279IRSAR utilizes a pipelined architecture to achieve high speeds over a wide bandwidth while reducing power requirements. The device is configured with an embedded Digital Logic Core (DLC) that allows selectable gain settings and thresholds to optimize performance, reduce power consumption, and enable faster data acquisition. Additionally, it features synchronous sampling, digital calibration, and a multi-chatter interface to enable low latency, high accuracy data collection, simplifying data processing and enabling quick actionable insights.

The ADS7279IRSAR application field is wide, but mostly it is used in medical, audio processing, monitoring, measurement and control, fire-prevention and security systems. The ADS7279IRSAR device works depending on the following principles adapted from Sar ADC Theory:

1. Sampling and Hold: The input signal is first converted from analog to digital (or back from digital to analog) using a sampling and hold amplifier. This is a special type of amplifier that is used to convert a signal from analog to digital or back again. The output of the sampling and hold amplifier will be a voltage or current, depending on the type of system.
