RF Transceiver ICsATMEGA128RFA1-ZUR is an excellent type of RF transceiver integrated circuit (IC). It is an 8-bit high performance micro controller with wireless networking capabilities. It is designed for applications such as smart grid systems, metering, automotive, home automation and industrial automation. The RF transceiver IC combines the advantages of the Ethernet protocol, ZigBee and IEEE 802.15.4 standard of wireless communication.The main features of the ATMEGA128RFA1-ZUR includes: operating voltage of 1.8-3.6V and low operating current; built-in AES-128-bit hardware encryption; variable receive and transmit power; support for PSK data rates up to 250 Kbps with excellent sensitivity; as well as integrated temperature and voltage sensor. The chip supports for UART, SPI, two-wire interface, UOTG and I2C communication protocols. It is RoHS compliant and there are many varieties of evaluation boards and tools for development. The ATMEGA128RFA1-ZUR integrated with excellent RF link qualities makes it suitable for applications where the radio link needs to be kept away from interference, such as RF-enabled smart energy networks where communication considerations mitigate interference from other RF sources operated at the same location. Its proprietary design, based on commonly used circuitry, allows the chip to receive, process and transmit signals in a multitude of ways. The RF transceiver’s high dynamic range and superior sensitivity enable developers to reliably build networks with large coverage area.The working principle of ATMEGA128RFA1-ZUR is based on the free-space electromagnetic communication between the transmitter and receiver, where the EMI signals are radiated in a three-dimensional space, also known as far-field. This type of RF communication is used in most applications where reliable communication over a sizable area is required. As the signals are transmitted as Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) waves, they become attenuated as the distance between transmitter and receiver increases. This property of RF communication is accounted for to maximize communication link reliability.In an ideal scenario, the radio waves generated by the transmitter are supposed to completely cover the entire range of the receiver station with controlled gain and power distribution. To maintain a proper link quality, the receiver first needs to amplify signal with a high gain amplifier, then filter out any redundant signals with a band-pass filter and finally convert the amplified signal into a demodulated baseband signal with a mixer. The ATMEGA128RFA1-ZUR also supports sophisticated digital signal processing (DSP) techniques, such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), which allows the transceiver to reduce the probability of interference from co-channel receivers due to the inherent independent data streams handled by the transceiver.
