Magnetic Sensors - Switches (Solid State)Solid-state magnetic sensors are used to detect the presence of a magnetic field and to provide an output signal based on the changes in the field. The ATS616LSGTN-T is a magnetoresistive (MR) linear Hall effect sensor that detects a magnetic field and converts it into an analogue output proportional to the strength of the magnetic field. This output is then used to determine the presence or absence of a magnetic field, making it ideal for various automotive, industrial and consumer applications.The ATS616LSGTN-T has an operating point of 0mA at zero magnetic field, and a linear output up to a maximum current of 20mA at saturation. The sensor has a temperature coefficient of sensitivity (TCS) of 4mA/∆°C, typical power dissipation of 500μA, maximum voltage of 15V, and a single pole single throw configuration. The ATS616LSGTN-T also has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, making it suitable for high temperature and harsh environment applications.The ATS616LSGTN-T works using the Hall effect, which is the realization of a voltage differential within a conductor when it is placed in an external magnetic field. A linear Hall effect sensor, such as the ATS616LSGTN-T, is constructed of two main parts: a source of the field with two magnets, and a sensing mechanism. The two magnetic poles of the source magnet will cause the linear Hall effect sensor to produce an output current once the sensor is placed in the magnetic field. This output current is then amplified by the sensing mechanism, allowing for increased sensitivity and accuracy.The ATS616LSGTN-T is used in a variety of automotive applications, such as fly-by-wire throttle control, fuel injection, and spark timing. In industrial applications, the ATS616LSGTN-T is used to control the movement of conveyor belts, security systems, and detection systems. Additionally, in consumer applications, it can be used for motor control in fans, pumps, and similar applications.For fly-by-wire throttle control, the ATS616LSGTN-T is used as a feedback mechanism to detect valid throttle position. The sensor can be mounted onto the SRV butterfly valve assembly or throttle body. The linear output from the sensor is then fed to the ECU, which calculates the necessary input and outputs signals for the control system.In addition to fly-by-wire throttle control, the ATS616LSGTN-T can also be used for fuel injection and spark timing.
