The DC1703A-B evaluation board is a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) that combines the performance of a 16-bit DAC with a multi-channel, high-speed, and efficient input/output (I/O) system. It is designed with a high-performance differential input stage, a low power output stage, and is capable of providing differential and single-ended outputs. The DC1703A-B evaluation board is an ideal platform for exploring and developing precision high-speed digital-to-analog signal output applications.
The DC1703A-B evaluation board utilizes the Analog Devices AD74890 high-speed dual 16-bit DAC for digital-to-analog conversion. The DAC has a power-scaling feature for dynamic converting performance and is available in two different versions: one designed for unipolar operation and the other for bipolar operation. The DC1703A-B evaluation board is designed to support the bipolar version of the DAC. It employs a 18-bit wide, high-speed input data bus. The DAC provides differential outputs with a 16-bit linearity and excellent signal-to-noise+distortion (SNR) performance. Its high speed allows it to perform real-time digital-to-analog signal outputs with low latency and high signal fidelity.
The DC1703A-B evaluation board enables multiple channels of digital-to-analog signal output. It contains four DACs with the AD74890 16-bit DAC for each channel. Each DAC can be independently enabled or disabled and is capable of operating up to a 3.3V supply voltage. The board provides common Bipolar Analog output with the DAC outputs for 2-channel busses for low impedance loads and up to10-channel busses for high impedance loads. The DC1703A-B evaluation board utilizes the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) to enable fast data transfers. It uses an 8-bit command structure for setup and is compliant with the I2C protocol. The SPI allows data to be transferred at up to 13 Mbps, and can be used in conjunction with the reference voltage to control the analog output voltage.
The DC1703A-B evaluation board contains an I/Obuffer, which serves two main functions. First, it provides isolation between the control signals and the DACs and reduces output signal noise. Second, it enables synchronization between the control signals and the DAC outputs. This eliminates analog glitches and transitions noise. The I/Obuffer contains both single-ended and differential outputs, allowing for the flexibility of connecting either to an external circuit or to an isolated system.
The DC1703A-B evaluation board is ideally suited for applications such as test instrumentation, power regulators, voltage source emulation, ultrasound transducer emulation, and audio precision measurements. It enables accurate voltage control and provides extremely low latency for high-speed data transfers. The use of the SPI protocol also eliminates the need for expensive and complex cabling.
