The DC2297A-B evaluation board is a part of Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. It serves as a platform to evaluate the performance of the integrated switch-mode power supply (SMPS) controllers. It works by converting an AC input voltage signal into a DC voltage output signal. The evaluation board is designed in accordance with the AC/DC DOE VI efficiency standards.The DC2297A-B evaluation board is based on Cypress Semiconductor’s PSOC 4-MCU. It offers an 80V input voltage range and up to 250mA output current. The board provides a wide range of options, including adjustable output voltage and over-current protection. The board also features ultra-low EMI, programmable frequency and low power standby mode.The power converter IC on the DC2297A-B evaluation board integrates the necessary components for generating a DC output. It consists of an energy-storing inductor, pulse width modulated (PWM) switching electronics, and a voltage feedback loop for regulating output voltage. The board also includes a temperature-sensing element to shut down the circuit if necessary.The output voltage of the DC2297A-B evaluation board is adjustable via a six-pin external interface. The six pins are the VCTL, MON, LOUT+, LOUT-, ENABLE, and GND. The VCTL pin is responsible for controlling the output voltage, while the MON pin is used for monitoring the output voltage. The LOUT+ and LOUT- pins provide a buffered output voltage from the power module. The ENABLE pin is used to control the switch’s on/off state. Finally, the GND pin provides a connection to the ground.The power supply is operated based on the buck and boost control methods. In the buck mode, the inductor and the switching component of the IC charge and discharge the output voltage. In the boost mode, the inductor and the switch form a flyback topology, charging and discharging the output voltage.The board is built using high-quality (UL) components, and is designed to meet all safety requirements. It features thermal protection, short-circuit protection, over-current protection, and over-voltage protection.
