Integrated circuits have become main components of modern electronic products. The DS1231-20 is a multi voltage supervisor IC featuring adjustable threshold accuracy and reset delay which is designed to monitor power supply lines and/or other voltages in standby, normal and other levels. As part of the PMIC - Supervisors family, the device is designed to detect and generate reset signals in order to avoid any intermediate malfunctions.
The device is usually used in central processing units, main memory controllers and other digital integrated circuits that require reset signals in order to maintain their operation. Furthermore, when employed in computer systems, the device provides enhanced system reliability, increased efficiency and greater dependability.
DS1231-20 includes an integrated power–on reset and a logic-level reset with selectable thresholds, reset polarity and delay times. The device is provided in a DIP-8 package, with a voltage input range of 1.5V to 10.2V. It features a reset assertion time of 15ms max, and reset de-assertion time of 25ms max. The reset output polarity is also programmable with a +/- 0.6V drop across a single output. The chip has a selectable power–on reset threshold of 2.65V to 6.35V.
The working principle of the DS1231-20 is based on the integrated Voltage Detector circuit. This circuit monitors the power supply and the logic level reset that is provided to the device. When the supply or logic level reset goes out of the valid range, the device quickly provides an active-low reset output that goes low-true/high-false. The reset output is de-asserted as long as the supply or logic level reset remains within its valid range. A hysteresis loop is used to maintain stability and prevent false triggering.
The device utilizes the reset latch circuit to react to a wide range of power supply conditions, such as low-voltage, high-voltage, and over voltage. This feature helps to minimize the occurrence of system malfunctions as a result of power supply instability. The reset output is an open-drain version, so an external pull-up resistor is required to restore it. The device also features an adjustable reset delay, allowing the designer to control the reset cycle of the device.
