Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors (AE) are high-value polarized capacitors. The primary characteristics of aluminum electrolytic capacitors are their comparatively high capacitance values for their size and their high rated voltages. They are composed of two metal foils, one of which is usually aluminum, covered with a metal oxide layer, acting as an electrolyte, separated by an insulator, usually paper soaked in electrolytes. The thicker the oxide layer, the better the dielectric properties of the capacitor.

The EEE-HB1C470AP aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a miniature, 85°C-rated, radial-leaded aluminum electrolytic capacitor. It is produced as a radial-leaded type, in through-hole mounting techniques with their terminals located on the ends. It is suitable for use in high-reliability general-purpose applications where space is a concern.

Working Principle

The electrical current flow in the EEE-HB1C470AP aluminum electrolytic capacitor is based on the principles of electrostatics. It utilizes a metal a metal anode (the aluminum layer) and a conformal coating of metal oxide as the anode. This combination of anodes and dielectric materials enable them to store electrical energy in a form of a static electric field. As electrical charge accumulates on the anode and dielectric layers, a potential difference builds up between the two and the capacitor is charged.

When the capacitor is connected to a power source, electrical current will flow in the circuit, through the capacitor and through the terminal. As this occurs, the current will transfer electrical energy, which will accumulate on the anode and dielectric layers. This potential difference is known as the potential drop, which will accumulate until the capacitor is fully charged.

As the capacitor discharges, the anode and the dielectric layers will release their stored electrical energy until the capacitor is discharged. During discharge, the anode and dielectric layers will deposit electrons on the anode, thus reducing the potential drop. In order to ensure optimal performance, the anode and dielectric layers must be balanced for a uniform electron flow.

Application Field

The EEE-HB1C470AP aluminum electrolytic capacitors are used in numerous industries including:

  • Automotive
  • Power Supply
  • Telecommunications and Networks
  • Medical
  • Industrial Automation
  • Consumer Electronics
  • Aerospace
  • Other Electronics Devices and Instruments

The capacitor is widely used in automotive, industrial and consumer electronics applications, including audio systems, HVAC applications, motor control, medical equipment, power supplies, high voltage systems, telecommunications and more.

The aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a small and low-profile component that offers high performance in a wide range of demanding conditions, such as high environmental temperature, high vibration and quickly changing loads. The device also feature large capacitance values and long life, making them ideal for applications where large amounts of electrical energy need to be stored for a long period of time.

The EEE-HB1C470AP aluminum electrolytic capacitor is an ideal choice for applications where leakage current is a concern and high-level performance is desired, such as in solar cells, board mounted LEDs, automotive applications, consumer electronics, industrial electronics and more.
