Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are a form of capacitor particularly designed for high-current, low-impedance applications. According to its mass datasheet, the EEU-FC1C820H features a capacitor structure of a stamped-bent nickel-plated aluminum case, and is sealed by epoxy resin. Inside of this case is a sintered anode plate of electrically conducting aluminum oxide, an electrolyte, a cathode consisting of a manganese dioxide-impregnated paper. The anode and cathode are connected by a bridge and a metal lead on the positive terminal.
When the EEU-FC1C820H capacitor is in operation, electric current flows through the external removable terminal and into the positive terminal, or anode. The anode then creates electrolytic reaction with the electrolyte, producing an electrical field. This electrical field is used to work against the negative terminal connection, or cathode. Thus, the capacitor is able to store energy for a set period of time in the form of an electric charge.
