Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors have many different varieties, but one of the most versatile models available is the EKY-160ELL152MJ30S (hereinafter referred to as EKY). The EKY is a miniature, aluminum electrolytic capacitor designed for a wide variety of electrical applications.

The EKY has a small size of 0.15~0.2 inch (3.81~5.08mm) in diameter and 0.3~0.4 inch (7.62~10.16mm) in length. It can be used in both surface mount and through-hole mountable PCB applications. The EKY has a broad operating temperature range from -40 to +105 degrees Celsius and is RoHS compliant. The capacitance value ranges from 10 to 220μF with a voltage range tolerance of ±20%. The EKY has a maximum ripple current of 2800mA@100kHz and a maximum leakage current of 5.0μA@20℃. It also has a high capacitance retention of 80% or more after 2,000 hours at +105℃.

One key feature of the EKY is its high insulation resistance. The insulation resistance of the EKY is rated at 10,000 megohms or higher at 500VDC. This means that it is more resistant to electrical shorts that can occur from mlncreased temperatures or from external radiation. Additionally, it features a capacitance tolerance value of ±20%, providing better accuracy and control in various applications. The EKY also has a low dissipation factor (Df) range of 0.12 or lower, meaning that the capacitor can be used in a wide array of applications without fear of it becoming over heated.

The EKY’s construction consists of an electrolyte-filled aluminum can that is sealed using a metalized end cap. Inside this, a spiral-wound cathode or anode sheet is enclosed. The aluminum can acts as an insulator and the metalized end cap provides the electrical connection. When power is supplied, the anode and cathode sheets create a capacitor by becoming charged with electrostatic energy. This process is known as self-healing and it allows the capacitor to be discharged and recharged multiple times without effecting its performance. Additionally, the EKY has an endurance rating of 1,000 hours or more, ensuring that it will perform reliably in a variety of conditions.
