Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are a type of capacitor whose anode is made of a pure aluminum foil with a surface oxide layer whose thickness acts as a dielectric. To increase the capacitance in a unit volume, the foil is etched with a corrugated shape the so-called “end-plates”. Then, a liquid or solid electrolyte (containing ions) impregnates the oxide layer.
