The ESDAVLC6-1V2 is designed for operation in one of two working modes. The unipolar working mode is designed to provide protection in systems with only one data line. The bipolar working mode is designed to provide bidirectional protection, so that the system is protected no matter the direction of the transient ESD or surge event. This is the most widely used working mode for the ESDAVLC6-1V2, providing protection in applications such as CAN bus, LIN bus, and other automotive data lines.

In both working modes, the ESDAVLC6–1V2 protects the automotive circuit by quickly responding to transient voltage events and clamping the voltage to a safe level. This reactive response prevents any significant current or damage from occurring. The quick-acting protection circuit of the ESDAVLC6–1V2 has a response time of 2 ns, making it one of the fastest protection devices on the market. The low capacitance of the diode module also ensures that the insertion loss of the signal path is minimized, thus ensuring that the system performance is not impaired.

The ESDAVLC6–1V2 is designed to be durable and reliable. Its metal-oxide varistors are manufactured using thermally stable materials, which means that they can withstand temperatures up to 150 °C. The varistors also have a very high peak current rating, so they can withstand large transient voltages without damage.
