The FAN7311GX is a smart battery charger and power management chip. It is an integrated, low-power, general-purpose solution for supporting a wide range of battery chemistries including Li-ion / Li-polymer, Ni-MH / Ni-Cd, and lead-acid batteries. This chip provides Charging, Power Supply and Power Management features, making it an ideal solution for low-power applications such as wearables, medical devices, smartphones, tablets, and IoT applications.
FAN7311GX is a monolithic integrated circuit containing all the control functions necessary to provide high performance, intelligent charging and power management. The device can be configured with step-up or step-down voltage converters, USB power, Li-ion battery charger, safety timer, programmable current limit, high-side switches, battery temperature sense, and memory backup. With the help of its high efficiency integrated buck/boost LED drivers, the FAN7311GX can deliver up to 4A of load current and up to 4.5A of charging current at a wide range of output voltage, while maintaining a very low power consumption enabled by its low quiescent current.
The FAN7311GX’s core power management feature provides a complete solution for battery charging and automatic load switching. It monitors the battery voltage level, and switches off the charger automatically if the battery is overcharged or over drained. This helps to protect the battery from damage due to either overcharging or over draining. Further, the FAN7311GX’s current protection feature prevents excessive current from entering the system by monitoring the charging current and automatically shutting down the charger if an over-current situation is detected. This provides an additional layer of protection to the battery.
On top of that, the FAN7311GX’s high-side switches provides a wide range of functionality from load switching to charge-discharge control. These switches are ideal for applications such as wearables and other devices which require very low manual control in order to conserve energy. The switches are capable of driving loads up to 4A while consuming a very low quiescent power. This feature helps to reduce the overall power consumption of the system when it is in idle mode.
The FAN7311GX’s programmable current limit feature is designed to protect the battery from high current loads. This feature allows the current limit to be adjusted dynamically in order to provide optimal protection against overcurrent conditions. The FAN7311GX also features an integrated battery temperature sensor which can detect battery temperature change and adjust its charging limits accordingly to provide maximum protection to the battery.
In addition to its power management features, the FAN7311GX also offers advanced safety features such as safety timers, high-side switch fatigue management, short-circuit protection, vibration detection, and reverse current protection. All these safety features help to protect the system from unforeseen events such as short circuits, voltage spikes, and vibration, thus providing reliable operation and extended battery life..
