Power Relays, Over 2 Amps: FCA-410-1622M application field and working principle

A power relay is defined as a switch that is operated by an electromagnetic field. Relays are usually used when it is necessary to control a high voltage circuit with a low voltage, or when it is necessary to isolate an electronic circuit from an AC or DC voltage source. FCA-410-1622M is one of the latest models of power relay released into the market. It is a 4-pin miniature PCB mount relay that is design for an application field with over 2 amperes of current.

FCA-410-1622M operates on two principle switches. The first switch is the main contacts, which are responsible for closing and opening the relay at the currents set by the user. Inside the main contacts are two contacts which are connected to each other via a spring mechanism. When these two contacts are separated, due to an electrical or mechanical action, the contact gap prevents current from flowing through the relay and the relay is turned off. When these two contacts are pushed together, a connection is established and current is allowed to be passed through the relay and the relay is turned on. The second switch is a normally open contact switch, which is used as a feedback mechanism. This normally open contact switch is responsible for sensing if there is a current flowing through the main contacts and if the current is above or below the desired current set by the user.

In addition to the main contacts and the normally open contact switch, FCA-410-1622M also features a LED, which allows the user to easily verify the status of the relay. The LED changes color depending on the applied voltage on the relay and it can be used to troubleshoot the relay in case of any problems. FCA-410-1622M also has a protection diode, which prevents voltage spikes from affecting the performance of the relay.

FCA-410-1622M relay is designed to have a wide operating temperature range of -25°C to +85°C, making it suitable for harsh environments.
