Application Field

Working Principle
The GTCS25-421M-R02-2 GDT arrester consists of two parts: an overvoltage limiting device and a discharge gap. The overvoltage limiting device is constructed with metal oxide varistor material on a zinc oxide impregnated semiconductor base, while the discharge gap consists of two electrodes which are separated by a narrow gap. When an overvoltage is applied, the metal oxide varistor will limit the voltage. If the voltage exceeds the protective threshold of the arrester, current will flow through the discharge gap, enabling the arrester to dissipate energy and protect the power system.
This GDT arrester also features a spark gap safety device for additional overvoltage protection. When extreme overvoltage is applied, the spark gap will trigger and provide extra protection for the arrester. The spark gap also helps to regulate the re-strike voltage of the GDT.
