HIP6006EVAL1 is a complete off-line flyback topology evaluation board from Intersil Corporation. This board is designed to evaluate HIP6006, an off-line, synchronous controller. The HIP6006 is a full-featured solution for non-isolated, off-line, synchronous flyback half-bridge designs. It includes safety features such as over temperature protection (OTP) and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, allowing the user to design and optimize the power system for maximum efficiency. The board provides the basic building blocks for power system designers to quickly evaluate a new design and achieve rapid time-to-market.The HIP6006EVAL1 application field is for DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS. The board can evaluate several solutions such as high power factor regulators, standby power solutions, LED lighting driver and more. The main topology used is a flyback, although the HIP6006 can be used to easily configure other configurations including buck, boost, buck-boost and inverter topologies. The evaluation board also includes features for EMI reduction such as low noise operation, soft start and remote on/off functionality.The working principle of the HIP6006EVAL1 board is quite simple. The evaluation board includes all the necessary components – the HIP6006, external components and an AC or DC power source – to allow the user to quickly evaluate the performance of the IC. The HIP6006 includes an internally fixed frequency oscillator which runs at a typical frequency of 4.5MHz. It also includes a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller which provides precise control over output voltages and current. In addition, the HIP6006 also supports multiple modes of operation such as burst mode and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) – which help to improve efficiency.The HIP6006EVAL1 evaluation board helps designers to easily evaluate the performance of the HIP6006 IC. It includes measurements for current limit, output power, wattage, efficiency, load regulation and line regulation, allowing the user to quickly understand the performance quality of a design.
