Encoders

An encoder is an electromechanical device which converts an angular or linear motion to an electrical signal. In the case of an Absolute Encoder (HRPG-AD32#14R), there is no need for additional programming, as absolute encoders contain memory which always stores their current position. This type of encoder has a serial output protocol to share the information. This gives the advantage of having the position of the encoder easily available without having to re-calibrate the system.

Working PrincipleA mechanical signal such as an angular or linear motion is converted to a digital signal by the HRPG-AD32#14R Absolute Encoder. The encoder consists of a detent rotating disc mounted with a series of alternating magnets and detectors. As the disc rotates, the magnetic fields generated by the magnets induce voltage in the head of detectors. The generated signal is then encoded by the electronic board in the encoder onto a serial data packet and stored in the memory. The serial output is inferred on a per channel basis and sent to the system.
