IDT23S08-3DCI is a highly-integrated multi-output fractional divider PLL (FD-PLL) in a 4mmx4mm QFN package. It integrates a bank of 8 fractional dividers (FDs), a phase frequency detector (PFD), a charge pump (CP) and a voltage-controlled-oscillator (VCO) onto a single die. This FD-PLL/TCXO solution has a low current consumption and takes up a small form factor. It can achieve a wide frequency range, making it an ideal solution for mobile handsets, graphical displays, tablets, and any other applications which require high performance signal-clocks.

The IDT23S08-3DCI has multiple clock outputs with any combination of frequencies and duty cycles along with an integrated XO. The clock outputs of the device can be programmed to function as an LVPECL (positive edge only), an LVDSS, a sine wave, a pulse-width-modulated (PWM), and a programmable duty cycle oscillator output (PCO) on any combination of the 8 output banks. The IDT23S08-3DCI’s oscillator is designed to optimize jitter performance while saving power consumption.

The working principle of the IDT23S08-3DCI is based on the capture and recirculate technique used by most FD-PLLs. A differential input signal is fed into the PFD and divided by the N or R dividers to produce the reference or divided-down clock. The output of the PFD is then coupled with the up/down count request from the CP and the feedback signal from the output of the N or R dividers. This information is then processed by the loop filter and sent to the VCO block to generate the clock signal of the desired frequency.
