IP2003TR is a high-efficiency synchronous buck DC/DC voltage regulator in the PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Regulators family. It is designed for high-reliability applications and provides high efficiency over the whole load range and temperature range. The IP2003TR offers an integrated MOSFET with 4.5 A peak switch current and 600 mV MOSFET VGS threshold. The IP2003TR works by converting the input voltage to a controlled output voltage, typically lower than the input. The IP2003TR\'s MOSFET is integrated on die, providing a low-impedance connection from the input to the output. The IP2003TR also contains a control block that precisely and accurately regulates the output voltage, secures and protects the device, provides dynamic response to load transient, and provides easy-to-use programmable features.

Working Principle: The IP2003TR works by converting the input voltage to a controlled output voltage, typically lower than the input. It operates by using the internal MOSFET as a switch and then the voltage output is regulated by the integrated control block. The MOSFET is continuously enabled and disabled, during which periods it switches the input voltage to the output, and the control block regulates the output voltage and monitors to ensure proper operation.
The IP2003TR has an internal buck regulator, which is a type of switching regulator. A buck converter is a voltage regulator that generates an output voltage by connecting an inductor and a capacitor between the input and the output (Figure 1). A buck regulator works by first turning on the MOSFET switch which causes the inductor to store energy in the form of a magnetic field. Then, when the switch is turned off, the magnetic field stores energy in the form of a voltage across the output capacitor. The internal control loop of the IP2003TR is then used to monitor the output voltage and adjust the duty cycle of the MOSFET accordingly.
The IP2003TR also includes many features that are suitable for different applications. It has a wide input range from 2.5V to 5.5V, adjustable output voltage from 0.8V to 3.3V, 4.5A maximum peak switch current, and a 600mV MOSFET VGS threshold with ± 5% accuracy. It also has selectable output currents of up to 5A, a high-accuracy current sense resistor to monitor the load current, and a PGOOD signal to indicate output voltage status. The IP2003TR also supports selectable inrush current limit and dropout regulation that prevents the output voltage from drooping when the load current is low. It also has output over-voltage protection (OVP) to protect the system from over-voltage faults.
The IP2003TR also provides high efficiency over the whole load range, with an over-current protection (OCP) to prevent over-current faults and a thermal protection (TDF) to protect against excessive temperature. Additionally, the IP2003TR uses a synchronous operation to improve efficiency, minimize noise and reduce the need for an external frequency compensation.
