The LM2853MH-1.2/NOPB is a high efficiency, low voltage, dual mode, DC/DC synchronous boost converter designed to produce a regulated output voltage of 1.2V from an available input voltage range of 3.0V to 25V. A boost converter is an electronic transformer that takes an input voltage from a lower voltage to a higher voltage, in this case from 3.0V to 1.2V. This type of device is ideal for applications that require a regulated output voltage, but operate with an input voltage that is too low to support the desired output voltage. The LM2853MH-1.2/NOPB implements a dual mode system with automatic MODE selection, which allows it to maintain regulation of the output voltage even if the input voltage varies over its wide operating range.

The LM2853MH-1.2/NOPB utilizes pulse width modulation (PWM) to generate a square wave signal. This signal is then used to control the duty cycle of the power MOSFET switch which regulates the current flow through the boost converter, thus controlling the output voltage. The adjustable frequency also ensures optimum efficiency over a wide variety of load conditions.

The LM2853MH-1.2/NOPB is designed for input voltages of 3.0V to 25V and can support up to 600mA of output current with a typical efficiency of over 80%. When the input voltage is low, the device automatically switches to Burst Mode operation, which reduces switching losses and contributes to an improved efficiency. Additionally, the LM2853MH-1.2/NOPB also features a programmable current limit and over-voltage protection which ensures that the device will safely shut down in the event of an overload or over-temperature condition.

The LM2853MH-1.2/NOPB also features a tracking mode and a bypass mode, which both reduce the output ripple across a wide range of load conditions. In tracking mode, the circuits attempts to sense the output voltage and increase or decrease the duty cycle, to keep the output voltage at the desired level. In bypass mode, the LM2853MH-1.2/NOPB switches to a low-impedance single ended mode, which reduces the output ripple voltage. Both modes help to improve the usable range of the output voltage, and enable the LM2853MH-1.2/NOPB to respond rapidly to load changes.
