The LNK563PN is an integrated offline switcher that is widely used in Powder, Low Standby, Active Power Factor Correction and continual Conduction Mode (CCM) applications. It is a highly efficient, single-channel, low-cost, off-line switcher IC, ideally suited for use with high-current, low-output voltage supplies. The LNK563PN is a full bridge integrated power factor correction device. It features an on-chip current-mode control that provides fast transient response, wide operating frequency range, and high usable switching frequency. The switching losses of the device can be minimized to achieve higher efficiency.

The LNK563PN requires only a minimum number of external components. It utilizes a wide input voltage range from arc 80V to 560V and is capable of driving up to 650V of output voltage. It includes an on-chip half-bridge MOSFET driver, a rectifier bridge, an on-chip control logic, an operational amplifier, and an on-board temperature compensator. This device has an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C and a switching frequency range of 100KHz to 2MHz. As an off-line switching integrated circuit, the LNK563PN has a wide range of applications in the areas of power factor correction, low standby power, AC/DC power conversion and Active Clamp Reset Control applications.

The primary role of the LNK563PN integrated power factor correction circuit is to drive the power switch MOSFETs in order to regulate the active and reactive power components of the load. The cycle-by-cycle current limiting feature of the device prevents it from damaging the controller and load if the output voltage is too high or if the load current is too high. The built-in frequency jittering helps to reduce EMI and harmonics. The Device has three main control modes to operate in: boundary conduction mode, continuous conduction mode, and discontinuous conduction mode. In boundary conduction mode, the power switch MOSFET cycling is accomplished without the need for an additional pulse-by-pulse current limit circuit. This minimizes the complexity of the design and reduces the cost.

The working principle of LNK563PN is based on a transconductance amplifier. The transconductance amplifier provides a current proportional to the voltage across the input of the amplifier. This current is then amplified and used to control the MOSFET bridge of the device. The transconductance amplifier is connected in a closed loop with the feedback circuitry. The feedback circuitry produces a signal that is used to regulate the peak value of the output current. This signal is compared against the reference voltage, and the output current is controlled accordingly. By controlling the output current in this way, the LNK563PN can efficiently achieve the power factor correction.
