The first Faraday cage, or storage capacitor Cs, can be powered by an external power supply or an internal charge-pump DC-DC converter. The input signal is through the Cs capacitor, where the analog to digital conversion mechanism takes place, in other words, the higher the amplitude of the incoming analog signal, the larger amount of charge is transferred from the storage capacitor to the next Faraday cage, or conversion capacitor Cc, where the output digital signal is detected and indicates the amplitude of the original input signal.
