The LTC3855IFE#TRPBF is a member of the family of DC-DC switching controllers from Linear Technology Corporation. It is specifically designed for applications requiring regulated power conversion, such as SEPIC (Single-Ended Primary-Inductor Converter), Cuk (Constant On-time Buck/Boost), Buck, Boost and/or Inverting topologies. This device comes embedded with a low dropout, wide input voltage range, a current mode controller and a 500 kHz internal oscillator, making it a very efficient solution for non-isolated DC-DC switching applications with tight regulation and low noise.

Working Principle

With its built-in charge-pump low dropout linear regulator, the LTC3855IFE#TRPBF automatically provides the necessary voltages to power its internal oscillator. The oscillator is isolated from the input voltage by isolating the error amplifier from the input voltage. This method enables the designer to more accurately program the current limit of the device by adjusting the oscillator frequency, thus providing for a more efficient and reliable solution. The device is also able to perform pre-biasing to reduce the current surge when the input voltage is dropped, even at very low levels. Additionally, the device can detect a short-circuit on the output and respond by either disconnecting the MOSFET transistor (latching shut-down) or reducing the current limit (non-latching shut-down).
