Working Principle of MASMCGLCE18A

The working principle of MASMCGLCE18A is relatively simple. The device consists of two N-channel MOSFETs connected back-to-back. One MOSFET conducts current in one direction and the other conducts current in the opposite direction. When a voltage transient greater than the breakdown voltage of the device is applied, the two MOSFETs conduct current simultaneously. This draws current through the parasitic diode associated with the MOSFETs and clamps the voltage to the breakdown voltage of the device.When a voltage transient less than the breakdown voltage of the device is applied, the two MOSFETs are turned off; however, the parasitic diode associated with the MOSFETs is still conducting current, thus providing a path for the transient voltage to the ground. This ensures that the transient voltage does not reach the protected device, thus providing protection.The MASMCGLCE18A also features a low clamping voltage, low leakage current, and a low IV characteristic. This ensures that the device provides a relatively low voltage drop and that the device does not act as a series voltage regulator.
