The MAX1757EVKIT is a evaluation and demonstration boards and kits for evaluating the MAX1757 Step-Up Power-Supply IC. The device can provide up to 7.5W of output power and operates from an input voltage of 1.8V to 8V. The evaluation board contains an adjustable resistor for precision output-regulation adjustment, as well as feedback and enable connections. The kit also contains an optional flyback transformer, enabling an alternative for applications where the output voltage may exceed the input voltage. The input voltage is selected by an on-board voltage divider (1.8V to 8V operation). The output voltage is adjusted through an external resistance.

The MAX1757EVKIT has numerous applications including grid-efficient point-of-load DC-DC converters for a wide range of industrial, automotive, computing, consumer, and medical applications, as well as multiple supplies in series, DRAM backup supplies, high-current low-dropout linear regulators, portable devices, and wireless communication base stations. It is also suitable for battery-backed applications in which output power needs to be sustained even if the input voltage drops out or is disconnected.

The working principle of the MAX1757EVKIT is based on a standard step-up power supply topology. A current-mode boost converter is used to produce a higher voltage from the input voltage, requiring an inductor and an output filter capacitor as key components. An input voltage is supplied to the power converter’s input terminals. The power converter then steps up the voltage to a higher voltage, which is then stored on the output filter capacitor. As the inductor current increases or decreases, the output voltage changes accordingly. The inductor and the output filter capacitor together form a resonant tank, which helps to reduce the ripple in the output voltage.

The MAX1757EVKIT can be used in applications requiring positive or negative outputs. The positive output is controlled by a resistor divider network, which is used to set the output voltage. The internal feedback circuitry guarantees the output voltage is regulated regardless of loading conditions. The negative output is internally connected to the output terminal of the power converter and to an external resistor for voltage setting. The negative output may be disabled, allowing the power converter to operate in a higher efficiency state.

The MAX1757EVKIT is designed to give engineers the opportunity to evaluate the MAX1757 Step-Up Power-Supply IC and to verify the device’s performance in a real application.
