The MAX3107EAG+ is an enhanced-performance universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) designed with low power consumption in mind. It is a member of the MAX3100 family of UARTs in the interface-controllers family of devices. The MAX3107EAG+ is an ideal device for communication interface applications between the microprocessor and peripheral interfaces such as serial-to-parallel, parallel-to-serial, or isolated serial interfaces.
The advantages of the MAX3107EAG+ UART over conventional UARTs are as follows. It offers low power consumption through operating at lower supply voltages than comparable devices, an internal oscillator for autonomous operation, improved jitter performance, and enhanced power-saving modes of operation. The device achieves long character times, short timeouts, fast switch rates, and wide frequency range.
The MAX3107EAG+ has a wide range of applications. It can be used in personal computing and networking, industrial process control, medical instrumentation, and automotive environments. The central device in the MAX3107EAG+ UART is an 8-bit Rx/Tx shift register with an asynchronous serial bus interface that performs parallel/serial conversion. This shift register can be accessed from either the parallel bus or the serial data bus. The device includes control logic to enable or disable the transfer of data. The device is powered by two voltage supplies, a 1.45V to 1.9V for the core supply and Vcc for the output stages, which can range from 1.4V up to 5V.
