MAX5037ETH application field and working principle

The MAX5037ETH is a sequential monolithic, non-synchronous and synchronous, fully-integrated step-down controller, and is part of the PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Controllers family. It features a synchronous, continuous-conduction-mode operation and is suitable for a variety of applications.

The MAX5037ETH operates over an input voltage range of 3V to 28V and provides accurate, fast transient response and low output noise. It is capable of delivering up to 4A output current with peak efficiencies up to 95%. Its wide operating frequency range of 200kHz to 2MHz is also adjustable, giving the user the flexibility to choose optimal performance over a desired operating range.

The MAX5037ETH utilizes constant-on-time control architecture to provide excellent fast-load-transient response. It offers excellent loop stability and eases compensation. Its slew-rate-controlled PWM modulation technique is employed for maximum efficiency in light-load conditions. The integrated synchronous gate driver provides minimum on-resistance, reducing power loss.

The MAX5037ETH features a low-profile, small-footprint 28-pin HTSSOP package, with a power dissipation of <500mW. It is available in a thermally enhanced, RoHS-compliant HTSSOP-28 package.

Working Principle

The MAX5037ETH operates by using its built-in PWM control to automatically regulate the output voltage. It employs a constant-on-time control architecture that adjusts the output voltage using a single reference resistor. The reference resistors is sourced from the external voltage-divider circuit, which provides a low-ripple output voltage. It also features a synchronous PWM modulator that achieves fast response to load transients with high efficiency.The MAX5037ETH also features an integrated synchronous gate driver and control logic to help reduce system cost and complexity. The integrated driver provides a fast switching frequency with minimal output ripple and low conduction losses. The control logic provides a hysteretic peak-current limit feature to enhance system reliability and prevent the output from entering a current-limit state.

Application Field

The MAX5037ETH is suitable for high-efficiency, high-power applications, such as voltage regulators, LED driver, server/storage power supplies, computing power supplies, DC/DC automotive/industrial power supplies and AC/DC switch-mode power supplies. It is also ideal for high-power and large-capacity DC/DC converters with a wide output voltage range, such as single-phase and multiple-phase buck, boost and buck/boost converters. It can also be used for multi-output applications like multiphase buck and boost, DC/DC applications such as switch-mode power supplies, computer-board supplies and automotive applications.The MAX5037ETH is fully RoHS compliant and is available in a thermally enhanced, small-footprint HTSSOP-28 package.
