Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) involve transforming digital inputs into an analog signal output. When an analog signal output, or an analog voltage or current, is required, a DAC is used to convert digital values into the required form.

The MAX5351BEUA+T is a low-power, high-resolution digital-to-analog converter (DAC) suitable for applications such as digital potmeter, automotive audio system voltage reference, telecom signal generator, digital control and processing of analog signals, gain setting, color-control circuits, and so on.

The MAX5351BEUA+T integrates the input shift register, output register, and digital-to-analog converter (DAC) circuitry on a monolithic structure. It provides up to 10-bit monotonic resolution, guaranteed 10-bit accuracy, and settling time of 1µs. It also requires only a single 5V power supply while drawing less than 20µA of normal-mode quiescent current. This makes the device an ideal choice for batteries-dependent portable applications, where long autonomy times and low total operating current are crucial.

The functioning of the MAX5351BEUA+T is based on direct voltage output and hence, it requires no external components. There are two power supply pins, one for the digital core circuitry and one for the output amplifier. The digital core supply voltage of the device is 1.8 to 5.5V and the reference voltage for the output amplifier is 5V.

The MAX5351BEUA+T features an internal voltage reference and an integrated precision output amplifier. The voltage reference maintains 4.096V, 5.11V and 7.75V output levels, with a +/-2% accuracy, from -25C to 85C. On-chip EMI shielding enables high-performance, reliable operation and high levels of common-mode rejection are achieved with the internal output filter.

The device has a full scale range of up to 10 bits and an internal or external reference voltage range of 1.2Vdc to 5.11Vdc. An SPI compatible serial interface provides easy, bidirectional communication between the device and the controller. The DAC output value is updated by reading the input shift register values and the internal latch bits. Up to four devices can be connected in a daisy chain configuration.

The MAX5351BEUA+T offers a wide range of applications in electronic circuits. It can be used as current or voltage reference to control system gain, and it can be used for digital control and processing of analog signals. It is also used as a digital potmeter for controlling digital-to-analog converter volume and for pneumatic, hydraulic and flow control for motor and actuator control.
