The MAX77324EVKIT# is a versatile and efficient evaluation board designed to measure, test, and evaluate the performance of the MAX77324EVKIT# DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS. It is a complete, ready to use kit that is capable of powering up other circuits or boards, to allow detailed measurements and tests of its performance.
The MAX77324EVKIT# works by using a full-bridge switching converter, which consists of two switches connected in series, with a load in between them. When the switches are closed, they create a short circuit, and the voltage across the load is zero. When the switches are opened, the voltage across the load rises to the input voltage, minus the voltage drop across each switch. The result is a stepped-down output voltage, which is adjustable by varying the duty cycle and frequency of the switches.
The MAX77324EVKIT# also includes a flexible power management architecture for optimized efficiency, low quiescent current, high power efficiency, and a wide supply voltage range, that can be used from 0.7V to 5.5V. The board features Thermal Shutdown (TSD) circuitry, that can protect the device and the user from forced operation of the device when the power supply voltage drops too low, that can cause permanent damage, or an overtemperature condition.
The MAX77324EVKIT# also has a step-down power converter, which is composed of a P-type metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) and a simple linear regulator with a PNP transistor. This circuit topology allows for efficient conversion of input voltage into a lower voltage output. The regulator operates in DC mode, so no inductor is required, resulting in a simpler and more compact design.
The MAX77324EVKIT# also provides a variety of other features, such as an adjustable power-saving mode, a gate driver with current and voltage sense, current limit and peak current limit controls, an adjustable load disconnect, over-voltage protection, and thermal shutdown circuitry. These features are all designed to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient operation and offer a comprehensive evaluation platform for various DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications.
