The MIC5320-KDYMT-TR voltage regulator is a linear regulator from Micrel Semiconductor designed with a three terminal LDO (Low Drop Out) configuration to produce a precise output voltage of 3.3V. The MIC5320-KDYMT-TR regulator offers very low quiescent current operation (26µA typically at no load) and ±1.5% output voltage accuracy over line and load changes.The MIC5320-KDYMT-TR uses a P-channel MOSFET as its pass element to regulate the output voltage. This P-channel MOSFET presents a very low output impedance which allows it to maintain a very stable output voltage with small changes in load current. The MIC5320-KDYMT-TR is also equipped with a voltage reference that provides a very accurate output voltage. This voltage reference allows the MIC5320-KDYMT-TR to have a ±1.5% output voltage accuracy over line and load changes.The MIC5320-KDYMT-TR also has a thermal shutdown feature that protects the device from excessive temperature conditions. The thermal shutdown feature can be configured to shut down the device at temperatures as low as 140°C. In addition to these features, the MIC5320-KDYMT-TR is designed to be extremely efficient. The MIC5320-KDYMT-TR has a typical efficiency of 92% and can reach up to 97% efficiency at certain load currents.The MIC5320-KDYMT-TR is designed for use in a wide variety of applications, from automotive, industrial and consumer electronics to communications. Its low quiescent current operation makes the MIC5320-KDYMT-TR ideal for battery powered applications. The device is also capable of supplying up to 500mA of output current without any additional heat sinking, making it ideal for low power applications as well.The MIC5320-KDYMT-TR is available in an 8-pin TDFN package and can operate over a wide temperature range (-40°C to +125°C).
The following outlines the working principle of the MIC5320-KDYMT-TR. The device consists of an internal P-channel MOSFET that is placed between the input voltage (VIN) and the output voltage (VOUT).
