PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear

The MIC5393-SGYMT-TR is a linear voltage regulator, a type of integrated circuit that is designed to regulate the voltage from a source within a certain range. It has low power consumption and is designed to allow multiple power supply levels to be obtained from a single source. Working Principle

The MIC5393-SGYMT-TR works on an idea of negative feedback that is employed by almost all linear voltage regulators. It consists of a discrete error amplifier, an external reference voltage network and an output transistor. The error amplifier compares an external reference voltage (VREF) to the output voltage of the voltage regulator and adjusts the output voltage accordingly to correct any difference between them. The output is adjusted by controlling the pulse width modulation (PWM) of the output transistor.When the output voltage increases above the reference voltage, the error amplifier will reduce the input voltage and therefor reduces the PWM duty cycle. This will reduce the current output of the output transistor and the output voltage will be lowered accordingly. Conversely, when the output voltage is below the reference voltage, the error amplifier will increase the input voltage, increasing the PWM duty cycle, and the output current of the output transistor will be increased.The goal of the regulation loop is to keep the output voltage constant. To maintain the voltage regulation and ensure adjustable output voltage, the MIC5393-SGYMT-TR has a special circuit which allows the output voltage to be adjusted by changing the external reference voltage.
