Application Field & Working Principle of MMWA05W4K Film Capacitors
MMWA05W4K is a type of film capacitors, which is made by bonding plastic (polyethylene terephthalate, PET) film with aluminium or aluminium alloy material. It is a non-polarized capacitor with low voltage, high ripple current and low ESR. This type of capacitors is widely used in a variety of applications such as motor control, power supplies, LED lighting, inverter, switching power supply, automotive electronics, etc.Film capacitors are also known as foil capacitors due their construction that consists of two electrodes or foils that sandwich a dielectric film material. The foil material can be either aluminium or tantalum and the dielectric layer can be either polyester (PET) or polypropylene (PP). These types of capacitors offer superior properties when compared to other capacitor technologies.In MMWA05W4K capacitors, the dielectric material is usually polyethylene terephthalate (PET) which provides a good insulation barrier for the electrodes and a high breakdown voltage. The aluminium foil electrodes are connected to a plated steel lead frame and then plastic packing is done. This process creates the basic structure of the capacitor. The capacitance value is then determined by the thickness of the films and dielectric constants.The main working principle of film capacitors is the same as other types of capacitors. When a voltage is applied on the electrodes, it creates an electric field which causes an attraction of negative charges at one electrode and a repulsion of positive charges at the other. Due to this effect, a charge is stored at the two electrodes which creates a potential difference across the capacitor.
