Features

The MT28 is a wide-voltage single-supply NOR flash memory device with a small package size. With its industry-standard pin-out and high-speed timing interface, it is suitable for a wide range of applications. It has a maximum read performance of 83 MB/s, a maximum write performance of 33 MB/s, and a maximum erase performance of 600 µs for a 4K Sector. The MT28 is available in a 16-pin TSOP package with memory sizes of 512Kb, 1Mb, 2Mb, and 4Mb.The MT28 features low-power operation with standby current of 0.15µA at 2.7V. It also features-on-demand erase, program, and read functions, with larger page sizes of up to 32 bytes per page. It is ECC protected up to 6 bits per word and supports full gobal block and sector protection. In addition, the MT28 features hardware-based authentication to authenticate a controlled sector.

Working Principle

At the core of NOR Flash memory is a set of floating-gate transistors that store data when the power is off. Each bit of data is stored in a floating-gate transistor, which consists of an insulated gate connected to a source, drain, and control gate. The state of the transistor is determined by the voltage on the control gate. If the voltage is high, the transistor is "on" and the bit is stored as a "1"; if the voltage is low, the transistor is "off" and the bit is stored as a "0".The MT28 uses an advanced NOR Flash architecture that enables faster and reliable access of data. It consists of an array of memory cells arranged in blocks, which are further organized into planes. Data is written to and read from the MT28 with page-level programming, and erased by either block-level or sector-level commands. The MT28 supports two kinds of program operations: Page Programming and Word Programming. In Page Programming, multiple bytes can be programmed together, while in Word Programming only one byte can be programmed at a time. The MT28 also supports multi-plane erase, which increases erase speeds by erasing multiple planes in parallel.
