NX2837CUPTR Application Field and Working Principle

Working Principle

The NX2837CUPTR is an integrated, linear and switching regulator with integrated all the functions of a linear regulator and a switching regulator. It works in a closed loop system and contains an internal voltage reference, sensing element and a programmable feedback current source.

The linear regulator works in such a way that it provides a constant and stable output voltage, even if the input voltage is varied. The internal feedback current source senses the input voltage and compares it with the reference voltage. If the input voltage is higher than the reference voltage, it will start to increase the output voltage. Conversely, if the input voltage is lower than the reference voltage, then the output voltage will be decreased.

On the other hand, the switching regulator works according to its duty cycle, i.e., it switches between the input voltage and a given frequency, and with the change in the duty cycle, it can change the output voltage. This type of regulator employs a pulse width modulation (PWM) to control the output voltage. It uses an on-chip oscillator to create different duty cycles, which result in changing the output voltage. The output voltage can be varied by varying the duty cycle, frequency or both.
