Working Principle of OPTO7010

The OPTO7010 optoisolator works based on an EMF (electromagnetic force) effect. When voltage is applied across the input terminals, a current flows through the LED, activating the photodiode. This is turned into an EMF, which is used to activate the photovoltaic output switch on the internal IC. This in turn controls the output voltage, allowing for a reliable signal transfer between the input and output circuits. The EMF generated is also used to provide electrical and signal isolation between the two circuits, providing protection from effects such as overloads and short circuits.
