Working Principle:
The PFS7534H is a high-performance integrated circuit designed to control the power factor correction (PFC) in boost converter applications. It combines a boost power switching stage, a low-frequency oscillator, and error amplifier, current sense amplifier, over-voltage protection, and other related functions. It also offers remote on/off control and standby operation.
At the switch node, the PFS7534H controls the power switch using a comparator to compare the reference voltage (RV) to the sawtooth signal (SAW), allowing it to maintain a constant switching frequency and duty-cycle control (DC) ratio. The RV is generated internally by dividing down the unregulated input bus voltage precisely. The sawtooth signal is generated by the low-frequency oscillator, which is internally fixed at 110 kHz.
The error amplifier compares the fast-feedback signal (FB) with a reference voltage (REF) and provides a signal to the pulse-width-modulator (PWM) to regulate the output voltage. The FB is compared with the REF to accurately control the boost inductor’s current to provide a constant output voltage despite input line or load variations.
The PFS7534H also features an advanced constant-on-time current-mode control architecture, allowing it to provide excel-lent line and load regulation. Additionally, the PFS7534H incorporates an over-voltage protection (OVP) circuit that protects the converter from output voltage overshoot caused by excessive input voltage, excessive capacitive load, or insufficient heat sink on the external power switch.
The PFS7534H also contains thermal-overload protection (TOP) circuitry that shuts down the converter when the junction temperature of the external power switch exceeds its operating temperature limit. Once TOP is triggered, the PWM is reset and the power switch will not be re-enabled until the input voltage falls below the OVP threshold.
