PI3PCIE2612-BZFE is a dual 12-channel low-power, high-performance, low-latency PCI Express 3.0 retimer for Gen3 high density interconnect applications. Using advanced TI deskew/clock resampling technology, PI3PCIE2612-BZFE is capable of up to 128Gbps of retiming performance while consuming low power.
In the application field, PI3PCIE2612-BZFE is suitable for high density longest cable applications. It can extend a wide range of devices including NVMe SSDs. The primary application of PI3PCIE2612-BZFE is to support connections between PCI Express devices over long cables and across multiple PCIe lanes. It is designed to provide support for a wide range of devices including motherboards, GPUs, CPUs, and other devices.
Referring to the working principle of PI3PCIE2612-BZFE, it includes an independent dual-lane retimer that provides a low-latency, low-power retiming solution for board-to-board applications. Each lane contains four receive-to-transmit link assemblies including input equalizer, clock data recovery (CDR), output buffer and output driver. The adjustable gain equalizer compensates for signal loss resulting from the low-crosstalk cable. received signal is then passed through a CDR, converted to a parallel stream, then serialized to the transmitter portion of the link, with transmission media optimized decisions made at the input equalizer. The output buffer provides enough driving strength to compensate for the decrease in signal amplitude caused by longer cables.
When the device is powered up, the CDR will do a fast-lock-time sequence up to the maximum frequency. Once CDR is locked, the transmitter frequency will be adjusted by the CDR at a much lower frequency. The PI3PCIE2612-BZFE is designed to remain locked for the duration of its life. The CDR will recover clock from the incoming signal and store it in memory.
To ensure that data is correctly interpreted by the receiving device, the PI3PCIE2612-BZFE can optionally implement de-emphasis. The PI3PCIE2612-BZFE supports different types of de-emphasis including positive, negative, and full-swing. De-emphasis will reduce the chances of false-clocking, also known as a loss of synchronization on the link.
