In RF front-end (LNA, PA) systems, the RFFM6201SR is a widely used semiconductor chip model with excellent performance in reception/transmission. This article introduces the application field and working principle of the RFFM6201SR.
RFFM6201SR is a three-stage low-noise amplifier operating at frequencies of 900MHz to 1.2GHz, suitable for mobile applications such as cordless phones, cellular phones and 2.4GHz IEEE802.11b/g WLANs. It is a low noise amplifier composed of an N-channel field-effect transistor in the first stage, a short-stage class A amplifier in the second stage, and an emitter follower in the third stage. The device is designed with an internally design line transformer (VCO circuit), which is used to match the antenna, and provides good return loss.
RFFM6201SR also achieves a low noise figure of 3.5dB, which improves the receive sensitivity while reducing power consumption, and supports 50Ω impedance matching with adjustable bias current. It provides a nominal gain of 19dB and a gain flatness of ±1.5dB in the 900MHz to 1.2GHz frequency range. In addition the device also provides pre-transmit bias current detect switch to notify when the device moves into transmit mode.
The working principle of the RFFM6201SR is as follows: When an RF signal enters the device, it is first amplified by the first stage N-channel FET and then passes through the line transformer (inductor). After the high-frequency signal is converted into intermediate signals, it is amplified by a short-stage class A amplifier and then connected to the emitter follower at the output terminal. At the same time, a diode detector ITC coupled to the first stage amplifier is used to detect the pre-transmit bias current.
In summary, the RFFM6201SR is a three-stage low-noise amplifier with high gain and low noise figure, suitable for 900MHz to 1.2GHz frequency reception/transmission applications such as cordless phones, cellular phones and 2.4GHz IEEE802.11b/g WLANs. Its working principle is converting RF signals using a line transformer, amplifying it by first-stage and second-stage amplifiers and following the last stage of output. The device also provides pre-transmit bias current detection switch. Therefore it is widely used for high-frequency reception and transmission signal processing.
