RT9702AGB Power Distribution Switches, Load DriversRT9702AGB is a power distribution switch, load driver and linear power supply from Ricoh Electronics Inc. This IC provides multiple channels of bidirectional switching and load control with current limiting and overload protection for 3.3V to 5V or higher power rails. Each channel of the RT9702AGB can provide up to 150mA of peak current and is capable of driving LEDs in high current applications up to 500mA peak.The RT9702AGB is a highly integrated power distribution switch, load driver, linear power supply designed to provide high current, low noise and low EMI. It is ideal for powering image sensors, microcontrollers, sensors, audio processors, display drivers and other high-speed low-power applications. Its multiple output channels can be used to drive numerous loads in true parallel, eliminating the need for large multi-wire power busses.The RT9702AGB includes up to 8 outputs and is capable of providing up to 700mA of total drive current. The RT9702AGB also includes reverse-current blocking, input voltage monitoring, over-temperature protection, pre-charge/charge enable control and adjustable soft-start control. The device also contains an adjustable low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator that is capable of up to 800mA of output current.The RT9702AGB has a very simple pin-out and requires no external components for most applications. The device allows for wake-up feature, allowing the power rail to remain in a low-power state when not in use. Thermal protection is also integrated into the device, allowing for safe operation in ambient temperatures up to 85°C.The working principle of the RT9702AGB is based on the ability of the IC to switch and control the load current passing through it. The IC contains a pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller that generates a pulse-width modulated (PWM) waveform with a duty cycle that is proportional to the input voltage. This waveform is used to drive the power FETs connected to the Load Drivers of the RT9702AGB.By controlling the duty cycle of the PWM waveform, the device can allow for a constant or varying output current or voltage. The IC also contains a slew-rate control feature which can limit the rate of current or voltage change on the output.
