The SI5344A-C-GMR is designed as a clock generator and phase-locked loop (PLL) capable of producing multiple frequencies from a single reference input. It can operate from 1kHz to 450MHz and is ideal for applications requiring a wide range of output frequencies and phase synchronization in high-density package. This clock generator can also be used for phase delay applications.
The SI5344A-C-GMR is based on fractional-N and multi-modulus architecture and it supports both a low-jitter single-ended reference as well as a self-referenced differential input. It can also be connected in a daisy chain configuration to synchronize multiple board clocks at different reference frequencies and power levels.
The working principle of the SI5344A-C-GMR is fairly simple. It receives a single reference clock input, which can be either single-ended or differential. This reference is then multiplied or divided by a user-defined ratio in order to generate multiple output frequencies. The reference frequency can also be divided by a selectable ratio of 1/128 to provide low-jitter clock signals and frequencies not available from the reference. Each output channel maintains a fixed relationship (period and duty cycle) with the reference signal.
The SI5344A-C-GMR implements a fractional-N PLL loop and an on-board voltage control oscillator (VCO). The PLL loop is used to maintain a lock between the reference frequency and the VCO. The VCO provides an output frequency proportional to the input frequency, and is simple to program. It can also be used to synchronize multiple component clocks.
The SI5344A-C-GMR contains eight selectable output channels that can be programmed to operate independently. Each output can be programmed independently to divide, multiply or synchronize the reference frequency with multiple output options. The outputs can be selected from more than 200 different output frequencies with a frequency range of 0.5 to 450MHz.
The SI5344A-C-GMR also supports jitter attenuation, phase delay and best-in-class phase-noise performance. It features an on-chip loop-filter, allowing for easy adaptation to different noise-reduction requirements. It also features optimized options for low-jitter, low-noise and low-power operation.
The SI5344A-C-GMR is highly adaptable and can be used in a wide range of applications, such as WiFi/Bluetooth/BLE, Network-on-Chip, base station, point-of-sale terminals, set-top boxes, and industrial automation. It is available in 48-pin VQFN packages, reducing system-level cost and complexity. Its flexibility, wide frequency range and high-performance make it the ideal solution for many clock-generation and synchronization applications.
