Application field and working principle of SIT1602BIB3-18S

Programmable oscillators are semiconductor oscillator integrated circuits which can be programmed to generate a frequency within a specified range. SIT1602BIB3-18S (SIT1602) is a wide-bracketing programmable oscillator IC with differential output from Sitronix Technology Corporation. It is specially designed for ultra-low power applications and features a wide frequency tuning range and wide-bracketed operation.

Application field

SIT1602 is widely used in many embedded systems and applications such as PC, servers, network devices, medical, automotive, industrial , audio, wireless and power management products. SIT1602 is ideally suited for use in applications requiring a wide frequency tuning range and wide-bracketed operations.

Working Principle

The SIT1602 oscillator is designed to generate a frequency within a specified range. It consists of a programmable oscillator, driver and an output buffer. The programmable oscillator is the heart of the oscillator and is used to control the frequency of the output signal. The oscillator is based on a CMOS, differential oscillator and is programmed by an internal 7-bit programmable Digital to Analog Converter (DAC). The DAC is programmed by an external circuit to generate a frequency from 2MHz to 18MHz and also programmable in 0.5% steps.The driver stage is used to drive the output buffer and also provides output amplifying. The output buffer is responsible for providing an output signal at a specified voltage level and is used to isolate the monitor output from the oscillator.The SIT1602 is also design to have wide-bracketed operation, which means the SIT1602 can operate in both conventional and wide-bracketed operation modes. The conventional mode requires three programmable bits and the wide-bracketed mode requires four programmable bits.
