SMAJ250A is a bi-directional, low-capacitance Silicon-based Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode manufactured by Littelfuse Inc. It is mainly designed to protect data lines such as USB 2.0, DVI and 1394 connections against electrical transients generated by lightning and other forms of electrical disturbances. It is ideal for use in electronic systems with data rates of up to 2.5 Gb/s and in applications with noise immunity requirements.The SMAJ250A diode consists of a solid-state junction between two oppositely-doped semiconductor layers. It works by allowing current to flow in only one direction, regardless of the initial polarity or magnitude of the input signal. When a transient voltage exceeds the rated breakdown voltage of the diode, it starts to conduct, thus providing transient protection.The SMAJ250A is designed with a low capacitance of 0.23pF to ensure fast response to transient voltage spikes and a fast recovery time for sustained emission and surge protection. It also provides excellent clamping performance with peak current of 8,381A at 8/20µs and pulse width of 5 nanoseconds, making it suitable for use in applications involving high-speed data transmission.The diode also has a breakdown voltage rating of 14V, giving it a voltage clamping level of 18V. This, along with its very low capacitance and fast switching speed, ensures it is suitable for a wide range of data line protection applications. The SMAJ250A is available in a variety of package types including SMA, SMB and SMC.The SMAJ250A has been designed to be an effective and reliable solution for the protection of high-speed data lines against transient overvoltages.
