SS320 V7G
Application Field
The SS320 V7G is a fast switching surface mount ultra-high current diode. It is an axial-leaded device designed specifically for DC-DC converters and power supplies. The SS320 V7G can handle up to 32 Amps of current, allowing it to cope with the large current swings experienced when converting from one voltage to another. This makes it ideal for a range of applications including computers, consumer electronics and heavy machinery.
The SS320 V7G has an anode voltage rating of 800 volts, which allows it to be used in a variety of high voltage applications. The product also offers a low junction capacitance rating of 3.3 pF making it suitable for extremely low impedance applications. Finally, the product has a maximum junction temperature rating of 150 °C, making it perfect for heatsink assisted boards.
Working Principle
The SS320 V7G operates by allowing the anode to be positively biased with a minimum of voltage, thus supplying current to the load, while the cathode is reverse biased. The reverse bias will limit the current flow and prevent the device from being over-powered. When the voltage on the anode drops below the forward voltage rating, the current flow will stop, thus protecting the device from damage.
When the device is forward biased, the current passing through it will be limited by the resistance of the material. As the voltage increases, the current carrying capacity of the diode increases, thus allowing more current to be delivered to the load while still protecting the device. As the forward voltage is applied, it is possible to control and regulate the current through the device, thus allowing precise control over the output voltage.
