The TC4421AVMF is a gate driver product that is part of the Power Management IC (PMIC) family. It is designed to drive high power MOSFETs and IGBTs enabling load switching with low distortion, high frequency transitions. The successor of this product is the TC4427A gate driver.The TC4421AVMF is a dual, low-side gate driver IC with internal undervoltage lockout (UVLO), a majority-vote controlled slew rate, and output protection against positive voltage transients. The majority-vote mechanism ensures that both gates follow the same transition.The device has two working modes. The non-inverting mode operates with the gate connected to a logic signal; the inverting mode operates with the gate connected to the collector of an NPN transistor.The TC4421AVMF is suitable for applications in motor control, switched-mode power supplies, LEDs, lamp ballasts, solar cell board drivers, IGBT inverters and AC drivers, DC/DC converters, and motor drives. The TC4421AVMF is specifically designed to operate with low-side MOSFETs or IGBTs with high current loads. It can produce a peak drive current of up to 11A with a slew rate of about 4A/μs for typical 10V gate drive voltage. The majority vote control ensures a smooth transition from OFF (Vgs = 0V) to ON (Vgs = 10V).The UVLO feature in the TC4421AVMF has internally adjustable thresholds for both rising and falling voltage levels. This provides protection for both the gate driver and the MOSFETs/IGBTs by preventing them from operating at too low and too high voltages. Additionally, the output pins are protected against transient voltages greater than 15V (Vprotection) to ensure that the device is not damaged by any high-voltage transients.In the motor control application, the TC4421AVMF is used to drive an IGBT or MOSFET in order to switch the motor current on or off at a given moment. This allows the user to control the speed and direction of the motor. The majority-vote control of the device ensures that both IGBTs or MOSFETs transition at the same time to create a smooth transition between the ON and OFF states.The TC4421AVMF also has several features that make it ideal for solar application including its low quiescent current, high frequency transition capability, and low current consumption. Its slew rate and drive current capabilities allow for faster transition times when switching between circuits.
