Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are capacitors whose anode is formed by a thin oxide layer on the surface of an aluminum foil. The oxide layer acts as a dielectric or insulating layer, and the other terminal is the cathode. An electrolytic capacitor has very large capacitance values, ranging from 0.1 μF to many thousands of μF. The TE1506-E3 is a radial leaded, electrolytic capacitor with an air-solid construction. It is used for high frequency applications and it is suitable for applications requiring higher capacitance in a compact size.

TE1506-E3 Application Field and Working Principle

The TE1506-E3 is used in many different fields such as power supply modules, DC-DC converters, SMPS, and DC-AC inverters. The anode is made up of an aluminum foil and the cathode is made up of an electrolyte solution. The anode and the cathode are connected to a circuit through an electrolyte solution, such as water or acid. The dielectric layer is a thin oxide layer on the surface of the aluminum foil, which acts as an insulator when a charge is applied to the capacitor.

When a voltage is applied across the two terminals, the electricity flowing through the capacitor causes the electrolyte solution to become charged. When the applied voltage is removed, the capacitor stores the energy and can later be used to release the charge when needed.
