The TIL117S(TA)-V belongs to this class of devices and functions as an optically coupled open-drain output type isolator. The TIL117S(TA)-V is a highly reliable optoisolator with an outstanding driving capability of up to 1A at 40V. It is equipped with a red GaN LED die as an emitter, two photovoltaic devices as receiver elements, and a high speed output transistor with a withstand voltage of up to 200V. This optoisolator, as well as its other counterparts, is able to offer up to 3500Vrms of electrical isolation between input and output. In addition, the device also includes advanced circuitry that prevents false triggering and false turn-off due to ESD or other environmental transients.

The typical application field of the TIL117S(TA)-V optoisolator is in controlling the state of small motors, power electronics, and solenoid circuits. Its signal and load drivers are especially suitable for bringing a low-power, low-voltage control signal to drive a high-power, high-voltage load when independent control of the load is needed. It is also suitable for use in AC and DC electrical switches and circuit breakers.

In terms of working principle, the TIL117S(TA)-V optoisolator takes a relatively small current at the input from either a logic device or microcontroller that is connected to an LED terminal, and uses the LED to transmit an infrared light beam to the optoisolator\'s photodiode. This small current, when passed to the LED, will generate an infrared signal that is strong enough to reach the photodiode and cause a voltage threshold to be met. Once this voltage threshold is met, the photodiode will fire off a tiny current that triggers the output switch transistor, which, in turn, engages the mechanical switch.
