The TSI578-CLH is a high-performance serdes (Synchronous Serial Interface) transceiver which is mainly used for mid/long-range communications in data centers as well as for high-speed data exchange between devices. It has a high-speed direct-attach copper transceiver with a 2-wire duplex interface and is used to bridge between 10Gbps to 25Gbps Fibre Channel interfaces. It is a quad Serializer/Deserializer (SERDES) compatible device with a selectable full-duplex serial port interface.

The TSI578-CLH is designed to support up to 25Gb/s line rates over up to 4 pairs of copper interface. In addition, it is backward compatible to 10Gb/s and can be used in applications with optical transmission. While the device is primarily designed to operate as an electrical transceiver, it also supports optical transmission if SFP+/QSFP+/XFP+ optical transceivers are used.

Working Principle

The TSI578-CLH uses four lanes to transmit and receive data, with each lane capable of data transmission at up to 6.25Gbps. The device has a direct-attach copper interface and uses two twisted-pair differential signal pairs in a full-duplex mode to communicate between two devices. The data is transmitted and received in 8b/10b encoding, with the 8 bit data being encoded into 10 bit symbols. The encoded data is then passed through a clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit to remove the clock jitter and reduce the signal-to-noise ratio. Finally, a Retiming and Clock Mux/DeMux circuit is used to multiplex and de-multiplex the data, allowing for independent and simultaneous transmission and reception of data on different lanes.

The TSI578-CLH supports link-level error detection and correction. The device uses data scrambling to help prevent errors from long strings of uncorrectable bits. It also includes a signal integrity check, which monitors for signal amplitude and surface noise, and can indicate or automatically signal a signal integrity problem to the host. Finally, the device supports link-level error correction and retransmission, allowing for higher data transmission rates and improved signal integrity.
